Hi Bob M. Don't stress about ABGTE, it was written a while ago, not sure if it has been maintained to current interpreter version. It might run with an older one, if they have changed things enouph to get a major error like that. It is of course Dos only, I think. You might try running a mouse driver, booting from dos, and run it that way. I learned by reading the docs, they are excellent, and there has been more added since I learned. There is a card program maker in the archives. Get a hotmail account and email me, I'll help if I can.

I was going to try to use the sdl wrapper that is up on RDS's web page with menno's version of PEU to try to get it to work with BEOS, but found out the DIR command is not functional. Looks like it was commented out. Do you know if it is fixable? I haven't had time to look at it yet. I read something recently about translating GIMP to Beos, they were saying that the IO stuff with Beos is significanty different than with Linux's, wondering if that is why the linking of libs wasn't working. Just a thought, not knowing anything about it. Just borrowed a free 286 laptop, but should be enouph to write textfiles with, if I can figure out the recharging system. Well, enjoy the new job. I am not going to email you directly, (I don't really trust Outlook Xpress under win98 anymore), but wanted to let you know I am DL'ing your new peu, will try some of the stuff I was playing with and let you know the resultant. I am not sure how much of the header variables I need to declare to get SDL working, but I think that the first thing that needs to happen is to declare the SDL surface, which is a structure of some sort, and I am not sure if I will be able to do that. I was thinking of downloading the Win32 version of SDL, and see if I can figure that out easier...since I don't know whether PEU registers itself as a BeApplication, or whether that still needs to be done before trying to start window drawing...I know its kind of like getting a handle to the application...can we do that with PEU?

Gold Beach, OR USA 206.163.168.7 206.163.168.7 - Sunday, December 26, 1999 at 11:08:57 (PST)Alright, I found a good refernce of the PE (Portable Executable) WIN32 File Format (finally!). It seems that there is a lot of un-neccesary crap flowwing around the compiled executable, wich only adds to it's size and could be avoided if MicroCrap would have read a book on "The C Programming Language" before writting Windows (c). Anyway, for you who might have being woundering where to find reference to the PE format, check out the MSDN Library of Jully 1999, type in "PE" and hit "SEARCH", you'dd find some articles explaining the format, once you master it, all you need to do is add the Machine Instructions to it that make up the program part of the executable.
A nice thang (wich I didn't know) is that every WIN32 .exe file contains a DOS stub in the header wich is loaded by DOS when the message "This Program Can Not Be Run In DOS Mode" appears, I Wounder if we could make our application Dual-Platform this way...
So, anyway, search that MSDN Lib if ya'rr a subscriber, if not, subscribe now! (It's free anyway, well, sortoff).
Or, download the source to GCC, modify the systax parser, throw in some Euphoria libraries, and call it a night (Just a tip...).

???, ?!?? ????!!!!!!(!!) 194.78.222.66 194.78.222.66 - Thursday, December 23, 1999 at 01:24:38 (PST)"I've also got a lot of compiler knowledge from CS480 and want to make a simple Euphoria compiler written in Euphoria, possibly co-developed by David Cuny."
I'm working on a 256-Bit Euphoria++ Machine Code compiler wich would produce DLL,OCX,EXE and COM files,but,(there's always a butt...) I don't know didly squat about the WIN32 EXE file format and I can't find a good reference text of some sort (MicroCrap just won't give *clear* information).
So how the flok am I writting this compiler you say? Well,I already wrote the Pre-Proccessor and worked out some Machine Code run-time error checking theories that will be applied to the produced executable,but other then that I'm stuck...
So if you say you know some stuff about compilation,maybe we could work sometyhing out (you,me,Dave and anyone else could work together...)
The stuff I wrote so far is pure Euphoria,no ASM or anything like that was used (I don't know too much about ASM and sheeïït,never had to use it so far).
The "++" part all gotta do with one simple type that I wanted to add to the language,namely the "collection".
This data type can act as a class (collection my_col
....
procedure somecrap()
puts(1,"I'm crap!!")
end procedure
end collection
my_col.somecrap()
)
Also, a "switch" statement would be nice asswell...
So, whataya say?
Oh, I ain't got no permanent Mail address yet,cos them white-ass crap blowers down at the cable company are taking they're sweet-ass time to install my cable connection to the net; should be up in a week though (or some company is gonna have face-less employees...))

Having read some of the great comments about Euphoria, would you say that
between C/C++ and Euphoria (also Java to a lesser extent),
for the kind of stuff you do, i.e. graphics and games, does Euphoria win
hands down? Or are there some cool things available in C/C++ that
Euphoria just misses? (say, perhaps, the garbage collection gets in the
